Helicopter Flight Hilversum, The Netherlands

Thinking of a helicopter flight in The Netherlands? Hilversum might be the place you want to lift off. The take-off area in Hilversum is pretty much the in the center of the country, here you’ll find Ryfas Helicopters.

The Flight

You can either take a small flight (30 minutes or longer) or go for a larger vehicle and hit the skies for hours. In my case, I took the 30 minutes flight which turned out to be plenty.

Locations

Which the small helicopter, hitting 140 km/h, you can still reach many landmarks in a small period of time. Within 30 minutes we fly by the following spots:

  1. Maarsseveense Plassen

  2. Kasteel de Haar

  3. Scheendijk

  4. Naarden Vesting

  5. Hilversum

The amount of work you can get done in such a small window surprised me. I flew around the start of Golden Hour, and honestly I would recommend these light conditions. It’s bright enough to take good pictures, and the light plays nicely with the surroundings.

Helicopter Photography

To take sharp photos from a helicopter, a shutter speed of 1/800 is advised. The faster, the better (if the light allows it, of course). Make sure your camera is set to “Shutter Priority” to take control.

Moreover, two camera bodies with different focal length lenses is very much advised. The helicopter is moving fast and you have just a fraction of the moment to take the photo you want to capture, let alone you have time to switch lenses in-between.

Quick note: above photos are available as prints as well.

Hope you can take something away from this information. Have fun flying a helicopter in The Netherlands or elsewhere!

Cheers, Mike
