Tulip fields in North-Holland and where to find them
Even though places like Lisse, and more recently Goeree-Overflakkee, are best known to most people, it’s North-Holland that boasts a enormous amount of tulip fields along the coast. You’ll find the map below!
The fields of North-Holland
North-holland is quite underrated when it comes to tulip fields. The area is better known for the beach along the North-Sea and camping. But once a year, from mid-April to the end of April/first week of May, the tulips are blooming in full color!
Besides the fields, you can spot multiple windmills as well. Looking to camp overnight next to the fields? Head towards “Molen De Hoop” as can be seen on the picture above!
Where to go
Most fields are located on sandy grounds between coastal village Petten and Callantsoog. In the map below you’ll find the exact locations.
I’d recommend looking up “Land van Fluwel” which will guide you straight into this area (between Petten and Sint-Maartenszee). Here’s a location:
From here you can start touring through the fields.
Be quick
As said before, the fields normally last till the end of April/first week of May, depending on the weather and temperature that year.
The tulip will be cut off to preserve it’s energy for the bulb to grow. So be quick and make your way to the fields rather sooner than later. Blink and you’ll miss it.
Warning; make sure you are allowed to enter the tulip fields. Tourism can cause cross contamination between the tulip fields. As you can imagine, farmers are not happy when this happens. So, make sure your shoes are clean and you find a way to ask permission. If you can’t, a drone might come in handy within the local rules ;)
