About Mike Tesselaar

It all started back when I was building FPV drones with a good friend. I discovered I had preferred a stabilized drone, so I could take photos. As Holland is as flat as a coin, a drone allowed me to find hidden gems and different perspectives from above. After bringing the drone with me more and more often, and eventually getting a permanent place within my travel bag, it became clear it was not just a hobby for me anymore.

Shortly after, I’ve picked up my first full-frame camera and started photographing part-time, taking all sorts of different assignments and expanding my network. At the time, I still worked as a Sales Engineer (I graduated as a Business Engineer). Few months later, I discovered the world of videography as well. As I started to learn more about both, I realized this is the direction I wanted to go.

This was the moment I decided to quit my job and focus on photo- and videography solely. Giving my mind space and time to evolve. I’ve always liked to create something out of nothing, and to offer a unique perspective along with it, whatever the challenge or location.

Highlights

2022 - Photo of the year Columus Travel

As part of the “travel in times of COVID-19” photo competition, I managed to grab the best photo of year award, as well as one first, one second and three third place finishes in the monthly contests throughout the year.

2021 - DJI / Skypixel Creator

I received "DJI / Skypixel “Creator status”. This means I’m part of a contracted group of photographers for the largest drone manufacturer of the world.
