Algarve 5 Must Visit Beaches, Portugal
Visiting the Algarve? In either summer or winter, some beaches really stand out from the rest. In this post I’ll sum up 5 must visit beaches (and coastal places), and where to find them!
Nr 1. Praia da Falésia
Rough nature close to Ulbufeira; Praia da Falésia is a real Portuguese Gem. The colors are extremely vibrant and the vibe is good. Make sure to walk around the topside before visiting the beach, the views from the high orange cliffs are just amazing!
Nr 2. Praia do Camilo
Close to Porto, Praia do Camilo can be reached by walking down a boardwalk all the way to the beach. From here, you can reach the adjacent beach by a caved out tunnel. The coastline is just as impressive as the beaches, so enough to do for both an adventurer as a sun lover.
For anyone visiting in the winter, the sun angle will get low early in the afternoon. Take that in account if you want to avoid sitting in the shadow on the beach.
Nr 3. Carvoeiro Boardwalk
Not entirely beach oriented but coast nevertheless. The Carvoeiro Boardwalk brings you to the most iconic place in the Algarve: Algar Seco (better known as “the windows”).
The boardwalk is quite short yet it takes you to some unique places. Beside Algar Seco, you can hike down other parts of the cliffs too. Make sure to comb out every inch as there are some hidden pathways in the rocks ;)
Nr 4. Parque de merendas da Praia da Marinha & Benagil Caves
The most touristic spots on this list are Parque de merendas da Praia da Marinha and the Benagil Caves. You can either have a relaxing beach day between the high rocks on Marinha Beach close the parking area, or decide to do some exploring.
You’ll be able to do a coastal walk from Marinha Beach towards the Benagil Cavesa (about 30 minutes walk). The coast is very impressive and has some hidden beaches as well as blowholes. When at Benagil Beach, you can book a short boattrip to visit and enter the Benagil Caves. Make sure to ask about the current, as you won’t be able to enter the caves with high tide.
Nr 5. Praia da Galé
For the surfers, Praia da Galé is the place to go! You can either rent a surfing board around this area or bring your own. Not looking to surf? This beach has enough to offer to enjoy the sun and go for a drink at local restaurants. Beautiful spot for sunsets as well!
That sums up the 5 must visit beaches (and coastal places) of the Algarve. Have fun planning your trip!
Cheers, Mike
